For former SFA students who are looking for me, I am now with Western Governors University, a non-profit institution that helps non-traditional students finish their college education. My book also just came out and you can get it on Amazon!

You guys keep in touch!

Your handouts for exam 3 are now online under your course number.

Also, PLEASE do your student evaluations online under the myServices tab on mySFA. Send some love or healthy criticism my way. Instructions on how to get to the evals follow:

“Login to mySFA, click on the myServices tab, and click on Self-Service Banner (SSB). Once In SSB, click on the Student tab, click on Registration, and click on Active Registration. Students should see a link by each fall course that will take them to that evaluation.”

Once you do your eval THE EMAILS (dreaded emails) will stop. Just added incentive.

Thanks, guys!

Happiness. For those of you who’ve expressed interest in a project on Methodist manhood I either question your sincerity or thank you for following the project. It’ll be out in October, but here’s the most important element–the cover, of course!

Part of our ongoing discussion of higher ed, politics, and who’s running this thing.

My post on a NY Times article from this week:

Check it out if you have the notion.

Seriously this time. After discussing the textbook debate with you guys, I want to stress how important education is in understanding other cultures and respecting other people who are different than you.

This video recently came out and was posted on Religious Dispatches (a blog that I subscribe to and have respect for as a religious scholar). I’d like for those interested to take a look: Anti-Islamic Rally

All Classes:

Your handouts for Exam 2 are now posted as well as sample successful essays from Exam 1 to help you prepare for your next book essay.

Keep up the good work, guys.

A few of you have asked for a list of sites to learn more about the changes in Texas textbook curriculum. I’ve gathered a few to give you a little insight into the changes and into what historians have to say on the matter:

This site includes a list of the changes: “The List of Shame in Texas”

History News Network on the Islam controversy: “More Controversy in Texas over Textbooks”

The New York Times Krugman Op-Ed on Texas School Budgets: “Leaving Children Behind”

Both 133 and 134 students should read this. It’s a very cogent explanation of Confederate secession from the perspective of non-slaveholding whites. Let me know your thoughts/questions…
