Charity R Carney is the author of Ministers and Masters: Methodism, Manhood, and Honor in the Old South (LSU Press, 2011). She is a columnist for the Daily Sentinel, in Nacogdoches, Texas, and a regular contributor to the Religion in American History blog (usreligion.blogspot.com). Currently, her research interests include the making of the modern megachurch and its impact on American religious culture. She is working on two monographs (one regional and one national) on the historical underpinnings of the megachurch phenomenon.
Charity has a Ph.D. in History from the University of Alabama and teaches at Western Governors University, a nonprofit, accredited, competency-based online university.
